The Problem: AI Editors Strip HDR

When you edit photos through AI tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, or Photoshop's AI features, they remove the HDR "gain map" data that makes your photos pop on modern displays.

📸

You Take an HDR Photo

Your iPhone or Android captures stunning HDR photos with extended dynamic range, storing brightness data in a "gain map."

🤖

AI Editor Strips the Magic

When you process the photo through AI editing tools, they output standard images without the HDR metadata—losing that gorgeous pop.

😞

Your Photo Looks Flat

Even on your HDR-capable iPhone or Mac screen, the edited photo looks dull compared to the original Camera app version.

The Solution: AI-Powered HDR Restoration

HDRPop uses the GMNet deep learning model from ICLR 2025 research to intelligently predict and restore the missing HDR gain map data.

🧠

State-of-the-Art AI

Our GMNet model was trained on thousands of HDR images to understand how light, color, and tone map to HDR enhancement data.

Lightning Fast

Processing takes just 2-3 seconds per image. Upload, wait a moment, and download your restored HDR photo.

📱

Universal Compatibility

Works with iOS Photos, macOS Preview, Android 14+, and any app supporting the Ultra HDR JPEG format (ISO 21496-1).

Perfect For These Use Cases

Whether you're editing photos with AI, reviving old images, or optimizing for social media, HDRPop brings back the visual impact.

🎨

AI Photo Editing Recovery

Edited your photo in ChatGPT, Midjourney, DALL-E, or Photoshop's AI features? Restore the HDR pop that was lost in processing.

📷

Vintage Photo Revival

Breathe new life into scanned old photos or digital images from cameras that didn't capture HDR. Add modern vibrancy to memories.

📱

Social Media Optimization

Make your Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook posts stand out with HDR enhancement that catches the eye on mobile feeds.

💼

Professional Workflow

Batch process photos for clients, maintain HDR through your editing pipeline, or deliver HDR-ready assets for digital campaigns.

How It Works

Simple 3-step process powered by advanced computer vision research

1

Upload Your Photo

Drag and drop your image or click to browse. We support JPEG, PNG, WebP, and other common formats up to 20MB.

2

AI Processes

Our GMNet model analyzes your image and generates a gain map that predicts how HDR enhancement should be applied.

3

Download HDR Version

Get your Ultra HDR JPEG file that looks normal on standard screens but pops with brilliance on HDR displays.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about HDR restoration

What is HDR and why does it matter?
HDR (High Dynamic Range) allows photos to display a wider range of brightness levels. On HDR-capable screens (iPhone, iPad, modern Macs, Android 14+), HDR photos show brighter highlights, deeper shadows, and more vibrant colors. The effect is subtle but striking—photos have more "pop" and feel more lifelike.
Why do AI editors remove HDR?
Most AI editing tools process images in standard dynamic range (SDR) and output standard JPEGs without HDR metadata. The "gain map" that tells displays how to enhance brightness is lost during processing. This is a technical limitation of current AI editing pipelines, not an intentional removal.
How does HDRPop restore the HDR data?
We use the GMNet deep learning model, published in ICLR 2025 research, which was trained to predict HDR gain maps from standard images. It analyzes luminance, color distribution, and local contrast to intelligently generate the missing HDR enhancement data. The result matches what your camera would have originally captured.
Is my data safe and private?
Absolutely. Your photos are processed on our secure servers and automatically deleted within 24 hours. We use end-to-end encryption during upload, never store or analyze your images beyond processing, and don't use your photos for training. See our privacy policy for full details.
What file formats are supported?
We accept JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, and BMP files up to 20MB. The output is always an Ultra HDR JPEG (ISO 21496-1 standard) that works on iOS Photos, macOS Preview, Android 14+, and other compatible apps.
How long does processing take?
Typical processing time is 2-3 seconds per image. Larger images (over 4000 pixels) may take up to 5-10 seconds. You'll see a progress indicator and can download your HDR photo as soon as it's ready.
Will the HDR effect work on all my devices?
HDR photos display with full effect on HDR-capable devices: iPhone XS and newer, iPad Pro (2018+), Macs with XDR displays, and Android 14+ devices. On standard displays, the photo will look like a normal high-quality image—there's no downside, it just won't show the HDR enhancement.
Can I batch process multiple photos?
Not in the web interface currently, but it's on our roadmap. For now, you can process photos one at a time. If you need batch processing for professional work, contact us about API access or enterprise solutions.
